Force of Nature

Group exhibition at Kit Form, Bristol.
Curated by Amber Bardell.

The Force of Nature runs through each stage of my practice, from the organic materials I choose to the consciously slow hand-crafted processes. The meditative practice of weaving allows for a time of reflection and with each passing of the weft or threading of a needle I make a deeper connection to the material and therefore a deeper appreciation of its natural origins.

This body of work features hand-woven textiles crafted from linen and raw wool fibre.‘Tether’ and ‘Ether’ highlight the contrasting tactile quality of these materials. The softness of the wool and the rigidity of linen act as sensory tools to firmly ground or to softly drift between internal thoughts and external movement whilst weaving. Through a slow and intuitive weaving process, and by hand-manipulating the fibre structures, fragile strands are interwoven and transformed into a new form.
